THE MEDICAL DEFINITION
Recurrent abdominal pain on average at least 1 day a week in the last 3 months associated with two or more of the following:
- Related to defecation
- Associated with a change in a frequency of stool
- A change in form (consistency) of stool
Symptoms must have started at least 6 months ago.
There is an abnormality in terms of function but the intestine is normal in appearance.
