Your IBS should be diagnosed by your GP or Gastro-enterologist taking a thorough medical, physical and lifestyle history.
They should request one or more of the following:
- a colonoscopy
- a gastroscopy
- a coeliac screening blood test
- a gut inflammation stool test.
(Shown on the image as two columns: "a colonoscopy / a gastroscopy" | "a coeliac screening blood test / a gut inflammation stool test.")
Your doctor should ask Red Flag questions about weight change, change in bowel habit, blood in the stool, family cancer history, anaemia.
Your IBS will only be diagnosed formally when your doctor has cleared all other possibilities.
